Abstract

Questions associated with analysis and design of wood light-frame buildings are addressed with emphasis on three-dimensional system analysis. Specifically, concepts for very detailed finite element modelling are presented along with verification based on full system and substructure experiments. Such detailed modelling is not intended for application in normal design practice but is a necessary precursor to framing decisions about design level practice and development of associated provisions in timber design codes. Ongoing activities are applying what is discussed within the context of the Canadian code system and potentially others.
